Thurgau Travel Germany offers its customers one of the most extraordinary river cruises in Germany: the discovery of the so-called “Amazon of the North” aboard the MS Thurgau Chopin. A route off the beaten track, between Berlin and Demmin or vice versa, crossing the Havel, Oder and Peene rivers and through the Szczecin Lagoon. It passes through unspoiled floodplains, pristine waterways, and tranquil nature reserves.
A special highlight is the trip on the Peene River, one of Germany’s last virtually untouched rivers. “This region – also known as the ‘Amazon of the North’ – is a paradise for nature lovers: calm waters, rare bird species and a feeling of vastness that is sometimes reminiscent of natural areas on other continents – but without long-distance travel,” explains Tim Starke, Managing Director of Thurgau Travel Germany. Other highlights of the route are the Baltic Sea resorts of Binz and Putbus on the Rügen, the car-free island of Hiddensee with its immaculate tranquility, the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula with its impressive natural landscapes and the historic Hanseatic city of Stralsund.
The cruise will only be offered on two dates in 2026: between May 13 and 23, 2026, from Berlin to Demmin and between May 23 and June 2, 2026, in the opposite direction from Demmin to Berlin.
MS Thurgau Chopin
Guests travel aboard the MS Thurgau Chopin, a boutique ship with a grand hotel ambience in the Belle Époque style. It can accommodate a maximum of 80 guests. All 42 exterior cabins – located on the upper deck and equipped with French balconies – are equipped with shower/WC, air conditioning, TV, safe, refrigerator and telephone. On board, guests can enjoy a panoramic restaurant serving regional and international cuisine, an elegant lounge with piano music and a spacious sun terrace.
