Epic Seabourn cruise. From the Arctic to Antarctica in 94 days

Seabourn

Seabourn wants to help you travel in style from one pole to another. The luxury cruise line has just unveiled a unique new journey from the Arctic to Antarctica.

Aptly titled the Great Expedition, it proposes a 94-day itinerary that covers more than 20,500 nautical miles and crosses 147 degrees latitude. Scheduled to depart on August 18, 2027, the cruise will begin in the frozen wilderness of the Arctic and end amid the surreal landscape of Antarctica.

The Venture, a 162-meter-long ship, will cross the Equator, the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, offering 60 days of landings and excursions to 14 countries and territories, from Canada and the Falkland Islands to South Georgia and Antarctica. “To our knowledge, no other ultra-luxury cruise line has ever offered a seamless pole-to-pole expedition of this magnitude,” said Robin West, Seabourn’s vice president of operations and expedition planning. “Guests will likely go from about 82 degrees north to about 66 degrees south over a 94-day period.”

The itinerary includes 33 days at sea, plus polar bear and beluga whale watching under the Northern Lights, Zodiac boat trips in Arctic waters, and underwater diving in both hemispheres. Guests can also participate in a “Polar Diving”, kayaking and guided hikes led by an expedition team of 23 members, scientists, historians and naturalists.

Seabourn, a pioneer in luxury cruising

Seabourn has long been a pioneer in luxury cruising, but its expansion into the expedition space really materialized with the launch of the Venture and Pursuit ships in 2022 and 2023, respectively. The liners, suitable for any occasion, combine strength and utility with a sleek design, each featuring an ice-class exterior and elegant interior, with 132 ocean view suites.

“The perfect guest for this type of experience is the global traveler who wants to explore remote areas, but then, of course, return on board for luxury and comfort,” West said. “They don’t want any compromise on that experience.” Finding a balance between these two extremes is crucial to the Seabourn ethos. “The whole design of the ship is to combine the onboard and off-ship experience with our guests,” West adds. “It’s a fantastic balance in terms of being able for guests to experience these far-flung destinations, go on a guided hike, see the Northern Lights, but get back on board, go to the spa, and have an incredible dining experience before bed.”

Although West expects this not to be an annual offering from Seabourn, it shows that the line is starting to respond to the growing desire for transformative travel. “Today’s luxury travelers prioritize experience over access and seek deeper, more meaningful journeys over fleeting indulgences.” Tickets for the Great Expedition have already gone on sale and start at $104,999 per person.
