Pro Power Onboard for Ford Ranger PHEV

Pro Power Onboard is an important feature for the Ranger Plug-in Hybrid, which allows you to use the pickup as a mobile power source off-grid.

Whether you’re working in a remote location and need to refuel your gear or charge an electric bike before an adventurous day, the new Ranger Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is here to help.

Pro Power Onboard allows you to use the Ranger PHEV as a mobile power source, instead of relying on a generator. Using the Ranger PHEV’s 11.8 kWh (usable) battery, Pro Power Onboard is available in two power versions – 2.3 kW or 6.9 kW, with power divided into three 230 V sockets. On the more powerful 6.9 kW version, there is one socket inside the vehicle cabin (10 A and 2.3 kW) and two in the body (15 A and 3.45 kW per socket) to meet the power requirements of heavier equipment.

“The Ranger PHEV takes the versatility of pick-ups to the next level, with the ability to be a small off-grid powerhouse, ready to handle both work and play,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro Europe. “The legendary off-road performance and carrying capacity of Europe’s best-selling pickup are now better than ever thanks to the Plug-in Hybrid powertrain, which can supply electricity to the wheels, as well as to tools and leisure items.”

The new Ranger PHEV is already in the process of being delivered to customers in Europe, and the Pro Power Onboard system can be tested in the network of authorized dealers.

Power supply when you need it

Imagine the freedom that a pick-up truck can give you that allows you to load utensils when you need to use them, no matter where you are.

You are miles away from the nearest power source and need to repair a metal gate or mount a pole. Using the 3.45 kW socket available in the body, you have the power to power a welder, grinder, drill or compact concrete mixer – all of which help you complete the job quickly and efficiently.

The rain persisted during the caravan trip, so the solar panels did not generate enough energy to charge its batteries. Instead of shortening the duration of the trip, you can quickly plug into one of the outlets available on the Ranger PHEV to keep the batteries charged while waiting for the sun.

Your children Want an adventurous weekend? Why not take them on a muddy trip with your electric bikes? The fun doesn’t have to stop even when the bikes’ batteries are discharged. With Pro Power Onboard you can recharge them during a short break.

Turn any campsite into an open-air cinema. Pro Power Onboard can power a projector, screen and speakers for an unforgettable movie night. Or become an outdoor chef, powering an electric grill wherever you travel.

How do you use Pro Power Onboard?

The Pro Power Onboard system in the Ranger PHEV is controlled via the SYNC 4 multimedia system where you can see the power consumption of the connected accessories on the central touch screen. In its default setting, Pro Power Onboard is deactivated, its maximum output power is 400 W. To activate Pro Power Onboard via SYNC 4, the Generator button must be pressed. Once the system is turned on, owners can turn on one or both of the receptacle outlets using the switches on the SYNC 4 touchscreen.

When the car is parked, the system draws power from the Ranger PHEV battery, but if the battery is low, the system will start the vehicle’s gasoline engine to generate a continuous flow of energy. When your remaining range drops below 80km, the system will switch to low power mode to ensure you can reach your destination.
