The Opel Grandland Electric AWD (all-wheel drive), the brand’s first model with battery and all-wheel drive, not only offers driving pleasure without local emissions, but also guarantees that the whole family, including luggage and sports and leisure equipment, can go on a trip.
Summer, sun, relaxation – and your personal sports equipment is already on board. For all those who do not want to queue at a rental station and pay extra on arrival at their holiday destination, but want to jump straight into the water with their own jet ski, Opel offers the ideal companion in the new Opel Grandland Electric AWD (all-wheel drive). The first battery-electric Opel with all-wheel drive not only offers locally emission-free driving pleasure, but also guarantees that the whole family, including luggage and sports and leisure equipment, can go on a trip. That’s because the well-equipped Grandland Electric AWD is powerful in every way – its torque of up to 509 Nm is just as impressive as its towing capacity of up to 1,350 kilograms.
Towing car: electric SUV with all-wheel drive with a towing capacity of up to 1,350 kg
The Opel Grandland, always electrified, promises maximum ride comfort for up to five people in each variant. The Intelli-Seats for the driver and front passenger, certified by Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V., the top-of-the-line infotainment system with up to 16-inch color touchscreen and the transparent Pixel Box in the center console for wireless smartphone charging are just a few examples of smart solutions that make every journey in Opel’s top-of-the-line SUV more enjoyable and relaxed. The new Grandland Electric AWD also has at least 485 liters of cargo space in the rear for transporting family members and luggage. If the 40:20:40 split-rear seat is folded, the capacity increases to 1,580 litres. In addition, Opel offers a lot of practical bicycle accessories and the like.
However, those who want to carry larger or heavier recreational equipment can do so very easily. The tow hitch is mounted in just a few seconds, without the need for additional tools. Then, all that remains is to attach the trailer frame to the boat or jet ski and hit the road. This is made possible by the fact that the new Grandland Electric AWD can tow additional loads of up to 1,350 kg1.
Stable, safe, comfortable: four driving modes, chassis with frequency-selective damping
Maximum driving comfort and safety are top priorities for the Grandland Electric AWD, even when fully loaded and towing a trailer. On the one hand, this is ensured by the ESP with TSM (trailer anti-sway system) function, which actively prevents the trailer from swaying while driving. On the other hand, two additional components promise safe driving pleasure that is constantly adapted to the situation of the all-wheel drive electric vehicle, which has a total system output of 239 kW (325 hp).
Drivers of the Grandland Elektro AWD have four drive modes at their disposal: “Normal”, “Eco”, “Sport” and “4WD”. While in “4WD” mode both electric motors of the all-wheel-drive vehicle work continuously and distribute power evenly to all four wheels to ensure optimal grip – especially on slippery surfaces – in “Sport” mode, the steering and accelerator pedal respond even more directly thanks to a special setting. Maximum power and torque are available in both modes. With up to 509 Nm, the latter ensures that the Grandland Electric AWD always starts loudly and quickly.
But that’s not all: the chassis of the top-of-the-line electrically powered model is equipped with frequency-selective damping technology as standard. Depending on the situation, the condition of the road surface and the driving style, the unique chassis technology allows for different damping characteristics for a comfortable ride at high frequencies – i.e. in the case of short impacts, such as on cobblestone roads – as well as for a sporty and dynamic driving style in more direct contact with the road at low frequencies. As a result, the Grandland Electric AWD reacts even faster and more directly to any driver command and, as is typical for Opel, remains stable when braking, cornering and at high speeds on the motorway. This is another plus point that makes towing a trailer easier and safer.
Opel Grandland Electric AWD, up to 483 km without stopping for recharging
The all-electric all-wheel-drive SUV is also suitable for holiday travel without local emissions: in the Ultimate version, currently available for order, the Grandland Electric AWD can travel up to 483 kilometers (WLTP2) without stopping for recharging; other versions with a range of up to 501 kilometers (provisional value according to WLTP2) will follow later this year. The Grandland Electric AWD needs about 30 minutes to recharge the 73 kWh NMC lithium-ion battery (usable capacity) from 20% to 80% at a public fast charger. And when the trailer is uncoupled at its destination, the all-wheel-drive vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds.
