In a significant move, Breitling announced the acquisition of the prestigious Gallet brand, laying the groundwork for the revival of a historic brand, founded in 1826. This is the second major takeover for Breitling in recent years. As a reminder, he had already bought Universal Genève in 2023. So now, with this move, it is further strengthening its influence in the luxury watch sector.
Gallet is known for its tradition in precision watches for aviation, motorsport and exploration. And now it is preparing to be positioned as a luxury sister brand for Breitling. The parts produced will have prices ranging from 3,000 Swiss francs to 5,000 Swiss francs.
A new chapter for Gallet
“This acquisition is a natural step in Breitling’s expansion,” says Georges Kern, CEO of the company. “We revive Gallet under the umbrella of Breitling’s savoir-faire and craftsmanship. We have a long-term vision: to bring Gallet back to the forefront, honoring its heritage in the field of chronographs and innovation.”
Alfred Gantner, Co-Founder of Partners Group and Chairman of Breitling, supports this strategy: “We are confident in Breitling’s future and its ability to expand its market share in the luxury segment. The acquisition of Gallet is an essential step in this direction.”
A legacy of exploration and adventure
Founded in 1826 by Julien Gallet in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the brand has always been associated with the spirit of exploration and long-distance travel. Gallet has produced precision instruments for motor racing, aviation and off-road expeditions, values that are also found in Breitling’s DNA.
Gallet was present at key moments in the history of aviation. In 1903, a Gallet chronograph timed the Wright brothers’ first powered flight with the Kitty Hawk Flyer. A moment that marked a milestone in the aviation industry.
Over the decades, the brand has continued to innovate, launching some of the most iconic chronographs, such as the Flying Officer (1939), the first water-resistant aviation watch, and the MultiChron Clamshell (1938), one of the world’s first water-resistant chronographs. These models were worn by pilots, athletes, and even President Harry S. Truman, who considered the Flying Officer “the most elaborate watch he had ever seen.”
Gallet, a new beginning under Breitling
Like many other historic brands, Gallet was affected by the quartz crisis of the “70s and” 80s, but now it is back in the spotlight under Breitling’s leadership. With the official launch of the new range in 2026, Gallet reaffirms its position as a brand dedicated to adventure enthusiasts, offering a perfect mix between tradition and innovation.
This renaissance marks a defining moment for Breitling and the watch industry, demonstrating that the past and the future can coexist harmoniously in a watch that says more than the time—it tells an unforgettable story.
