Dalin broke previous records

Winning in an incredible time of 64 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes and 49 seconds, Dalin broke the previous record set in 2016 by Armel Le Cléac’h (74 days and 3 hours) by an incredible margin of 9 days, 8 hours, 12 minutes and 57 seconds!

The 40-year-old skipper, who grew up in Le Havre in northern France, achieved the most important result of his career, after finishing second in 2020-2021.

He was able to relax to fully enjoy his victory day, but had to wait for the tide to rise in the early afternoon before climbing the legendary Les Sables d’Olonne canal, to step on land for the first time since leaving Les Sables d’Olonne on the day of the start, Sunday, November 10, and to fully savor his incredible victory.

Knowing full well that any kind of incident or accident could happen, Charlie Dalin needed considerable calm to live through the tense final hours of his race as he made a long descent from Point of Brittany to Les Sables d’Olonne in light winds.

On the last kilometers of the race that allowed him to sail through his native waters, off Concarneau and the Glenans Islands, he was able to enjoy a flight carried out in his honor by the French Navy, and to see his coaches from his training group for this race. But Dalin had to remain calm and focused until he fired the finish gun, off the famous Nouch Sud finish line in Les Sables d’Olonne.

The first boats set off to meet the winner at 05:00 UTC, and the live broadcast began two hours later, showing Charlie well dressed against the cold and MACIF Santé Prévoyance sailing in the light wind on a calm sea, in the gentle shades of morning twilight. Then, stunning footage was broadcast of the huge fleet of support boats escorting Charlie on the last few miles of an incredible journey.

A categorical victory in the 10th-1st edition of the Vendée Globe

After a few short turns to the finish, the suspense ended and Charlie crossed the finish line at 07:24 UTC, taking a categorical victory in the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe. This was also the moment when he was finally able to release his foils, welcome his loved ones on board and, above all, let his emotions take over.
