On 24 June 2025, the European Boating Industry (EBI) and the European Fishing Tackle & Trade Association (EFTTA) concluded a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening cooperation between the European recreational boat and fishing sectors. This new collaboration is based on a shared commitment to sustainability, innovation and the long-term growth of these interconnected industries.
Recreational sea fishing and recreational fishing
At the intersection of the European recreational and recreational fishing sectors, EBI and EFTTA combine distinct but complementary strengths. The EBI covers the entire navigation value chain, developing policies and promoting sustainability in nautical tourism. EFTTA represents equipment manufacturers, wholesalers and fish tourism businesses in Europe, supporting environmentally responsible recreational fishing. By joining forces, the partnership increases the visibility and influence of both sectors in the European Union’s political landscape.

The agreement outlines a coordinated approach to advocacy, data exchange and communication, with a particular focus on policy shaping and public dialogue on the blue economy, maritime access, environmental sustainability and tourism.
Joint participation in flagship events such as the EFTTA Angling Summit and EBI’s Blue Innovation Dock will serve as key platforms for visibility and collaboration.
In parallel, both organisations will engage in joint public affairs efforts and contribute to policy discussions on qualifications and recreational access. Regular meetings between management teams and the development of joint action plans will support implementation, reflecting a pragmatic, forward-looking partnership that balances strategic alignment with institutional independence.

Robert Marx, President of the European Shipping Industry, commented:
Bringing boating and recreational fishing together strengthens our ability to shape a sustainable and innovative future for the European marine leisure sector. This partnership with EFTTA opens new doors for collaboration and ensures that our industries have a stronger voice where it matters most.
Gerard Bakkenes, President of EFTTA, added:
This partnership marks an important step forward for Europe’s recreational fishing and recreational boating sector. Together, EFTTA and EBI represent two large sectors that support hundreds of thousands of jobs. Sustainability is at the heart of our business – from the products we develop to the way we engage with our environment. By joining forces, we can better contribute to the EU’s vision for sustainable blue growth and ensure that our sectors remain strong, innovative and aligned with Europe’s environmental goals.
