Navigating through the refined preferences of wine lovers, summer 2025 charts a clear direction: white wins, rosé remains a reliable companion, and red slightly falls into the top of the choices, especially among urban consumers. Domeniile Davidescu Winery – a name increasingly common on fine dining in Romania and beyond – comes with a detailed analysis of these trends, based on real data from retail and HoReCa.
For connoisseurs who choose to spend their summers between the marina and the coast, white wines are the natural option. In 2024, their sales increased by 6% compared to the previous year, supported by balanced and vibrant blends, such as Viorica & Pinot Grigio. With its delicate freshness and elegant texture, this blend is ideal for a dinner on board, a sunset tasting or an aperitif on deck.
Rosé stays on the wave
Rosé – the symbol of summer and Mediterranean lightness – remains on the wave, with a stable and constant demand. Whether served cold, alongside seafood, or enjoyed at an offshore anchorage, it remains the natural choice for those who value the balance between intensity and finesse.
On the other hand, red wines are starting to lose momentum in the warm season, especially among the urban public and those who adopt an active, mobile lifestyle, connected to natural elements and the atmosphere. Demand decreases by about 5%, and preferences are oriented towards more airy profiles and less classic expressions of terroir.
“In yachting, as in winemaking, balance, refinement and authenticity are essential. That is why we constantly invest in varieties that tell a story – such as Viorica or Rară Neagră – and in collaborations with international oenologists, who add extra modernity and depth to our wines”, says Andrian Davidescu, the winery’s CEO.
The summer season doubles white wine sales, while rosé reaches the peak of consumption. Red wines, on the other hand, dominate the cold season. This seasonality influences not only consumption choices, but also the way new wines are created: lighter, more versatile, perfect for nautical getaways and gourmet experiences at sea.
Chardonnay is becoming a constant in premium selections, and Viorica surprises with her dynamism, doubling her sales in 2024. At the same time, Rara Neagră retains its status as an emblematic variety, whether in red, rosé or sparkling expressions – perfect for a toast under the stars or for moments of celebration on board.
