Bestevaer 53 “Tethys”, the sailing yacht of Tom Waes, a well-known TV presenter from Belgium, was recently launched at the KM Yachtbuilders shipyard. A special moment for both shipyard professionals and the owner.
The sailing yacht “Tethys” has been built with as many sustainable materials as possible. More than 70% of the aluminum in the ship’s structure is recycled. Instead of a diesel engine, the vessel has an electric propulsion with a propeller with a regeneration system.

The interior is made of bamboo, again an eco-friendly choice. There is plenty of space on board thanks to the three cabins and ample storage space in the bow area. The central ballasted keel allows the ship to enter ports and shallow rivers.
The Bestevaer 53 guarantees fantastic journeys. As Tom previously mentioned during the KM Yachtbuilders Open Day, he dreams of sailing the route to Antarctica, the same one his compatriot Adrien de Gerlache sailed in 1897.
The expedition with the three-masted ship “Belgica” was the first international scientific expedition to the South Pole.
To be able to embark on such a legendary journey is pure adventure,” says Tom. “Our journey to Antarctica begins in Antwerp as a tribute to expedition leader Adrien de Gerlache.

The yacht will undergo several sea trials in the coming period and will be on display during Hiswa te Water (the largest waterboat exhibition in Northern Europe), which will take place in Lelystad from 3 to 7 September.
